Our agency’s staff is full of pet lovers and our furry family members make life so much more fun. Supporting pet organizations is very important to us as we know there is a huge need to help the stray dogs and cats in our city. We wanted to take the opportunity to feature a nonprofit helping animals in our latest Making a Difference in San Antonio feature on Sunday, May 9th.
This feature highlighted the wonderful work done by San Antonio Pets Alive!, an organization we’ve worked with for years to help raise funds for their mission. This was just another step in that direction to help educate the public and hopefully gain even more support for their nonprofit mission to save animal lives.
SA Pets Alive! was founded in 2011 and has worked hard to become a safety net for dogs and cats at crowded municipal shelters who were facing euthanasia. In just ten years, they have saved over 56,000 pets and have helped increase the average annual number of saved, live release animals at San Antonio Animal Care Services from 30% to 90%! Needless to say, their impact has been huge in our community but, like many other organizations, SA Pets Alive! was hit hard by the pandemic. Normal fundraising events had to be canceled and they relied heavily on their volunteers to continue their efforts.
They don’t just save animals from local kill-shelters, they provide foster homes, find adopters, and provide any medical assistance needed to improve the lives of the dogs and cats they take in. They also work with other shelters in San Antonio as well as across the nation to find safe solutions for at-risk animals.
